TMCnet Contributing Editor
Google Inc. and MTV Networks, a unit of Viacom, teamed up recently to test a video distribution model geared towards consumers, Web publishers and advertisers. Google ( News - Alert) plans to distribute ad-supported content from MTV Networks to website publishers, enabling them to showcase clips from key programs, such as Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants and MTV's Laguna Beach. Google and MTV will be testing the model later this month.
According to the Google press release, the latest model helps users create targeted marketing vehicles for advertisers which will help to promote available programming through cable, satellite and other distribution platforms carrying MTVN's on-air channels.
The video programming and advertising will be available directly to Google's extensive AdSense network that offers targeted text and image ads to its network of websites and blogs. Clips from MTV Networks' kids and family, music and entertainment programming will also be available to consumers on an ad-supported basis on sites outside MTVN's proprietary sites.
Tom Freston, President and CEO, Viacom says that the deal fits in perfectly with their strategy to deliver the best content to their audience.
Eric Schmidt, Google's CEO reiterated Google’s commitment help content owners, Web publishers and advertisers to generate interest and increase revenue opportunities.
Clips of MTV's "Laguna Beach: The Real OC", MTV Video Music Awards and Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" will be available on the Web through the video distribution model.
