Nordstrom to Expand Fulfillment and Contact Center in Iowa

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Fashion specialty retailer, Nordstrom, Inc., plans to expand its existing fulfillment and contact centers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The expansion is expected to complete in spring 2008 and will coincide with the company’s updating of its Direct business’ inventory systems. The updated systems will tie in with the store system to create a single view of inventory across channels.

This capability will provide a more seamless shopping experience for its customers whether they choose to shop online, in-store or by phone.

Nordstrom also plans to add 258,000 square feet to the current 320,000 square feet of the facility. Pending approvals, the multi-million dollar expansion is expected to create 500 additional jobs in both the fulfillment and contact centers.

Jamie Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom Direct expressed his excitement to expand their presence in Cedar Rapids.

“Our online business has experienced rapid growth and we are committed to building a billion dollar business within four to six years,” he said in a press release.

He continued: “We’re confident we’ll continue to find the local talent we need in the Cedar Rapids community to support our efforts as we move forward.”

This will be the second expansion for the company in Cedar Rapids since opening in 1997.
