Wireless communications provider TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert) (TCS) announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded a federal contract to supply a secure satellite communications (satcom) network for a U.S. government agency.

Specifically, TCS will provide the agency with its SwiftLink deployable communication suite, which comprises satellite terminals, as well as the space segment and a communications hub. TCS integrated the hub and remote equipment from iDirect Technologies, a subsidiary of VT Systems for this deployment.

TCS’ SwiftLink system will allow the agency to meet its Continuity of Operations (COOP) requirements. SwiftLink units provide secure data, voice and video access; connectivity anywhere and anytime with a speedy setup.

As part of the project, TCS will also supply a 3.8-meter Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT), multiple 1.8-meter VSATs and a deployable and custom 2.0-meter SwiftLink.

“This is an outstanding contract win for TCS as the Company was not only selected based on our ability to provide an end-to-end solution, but on our past performance in successfully working with other Federal agencies to meet their secure satellite communications requirements,” said TCS’ chairman, president and CEO Maurice B. Tosé in a statement. “This agency helps to protect all citizens of the United States, and it is rewarding to know that they have the confidence to share critical information via TCS' satellite technology.”

TCS recently made news when it announced that it was awarded with its 50th patent. Patent number 142826 titled "Short Message Service Notification Forwarded between Multiple Short Message Service Centers" was awarded to TCS by the Israeli Patent Office.

According to TCS’ release, its invention relates to sending a text message to a wireless subscriber from multiple Short Message Service Centers (SMSCs), “the determination of which SMSC will send the text message to the subscriber may be fixed or dynamically determined.” The company has been awarded with similar patents in the United States, Mexico, Australia, Korea, New Zealand and Canada.
