Verizon (News - Alert) announced Thursday that it introduced its FiOS television service in 106 communities in the state of New Jersey. The service will now be available in parts of Bergen, Camden, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset and Union counties.

“This is great news for New Jersey consumers, who’ve waited far too long for true competition and a superior choice of television service for the home,” said Verizon New Jersey’s senior vice president and general manager William Foshay. “Verizon’s FiOS TV will bring something to consumers they’ve never had before: incredible picture-and-sound clarity and innovative new services, all from a brand they know and trust.”

According to Verizon, under the Garden State’s new video franchise law, the telecom has announced plans to offer FiOS TV over its all-fiber network in more than 300 communities in the next few years.

“We’re looking forward to quickly offering consumers in New Jersey the industry’s absolute best product in home entertainment,” added Foshay. “We’re delivering a product that customers are demanding and no other company can match: a superior TV service with more channels, more choice and more value, delivered on an all-fiber, next-generation network. Customers will also be delighted with the new interactive features we announced this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, including our new interactive media guide that makes watching FiOS TV easier and better than ever.”

Today’s news follows Verizon’s news about it recent announcement about it naming Verizon Wireless president Denny Strigl to the post of president and chief operating officer, after Lawrence T. Babbio Jr.’s retirement from his post as vice chairman and president.
