AT&T in VPN Deal with Resource One Credit Union

Via a new contract, AT&T (News - Alert) agreed to deploy a MPLS-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) for Resource One Credit Union. The new network will link all of the financial organization's eight locations throughout Dallas and Northwest Harris counties with its headquarters in Dallas.

The new, three-year agreement specifically calls for AT&T to also provide Resource One with a Managed Internet Service for the company's multiple locations. The move will provide Resource One's staff with increased bandwidth for greater network efficiency. The increased bandwidth will also allow the company to adopt VoIP technology.

"We needed a solution that would allow us the flexibility to prioritize our data while providing expanded bandwidth to support advanced voice applications," commented Resource One's chief information officer Mark Gregory in a statement released on Wednesday. "The services provided by AT&T will help us attain the highest levels of network efficiency and will free up resources, allowing us to continue to focus on the most important aspect of our business: our members."

Today's news follows AT&T's recent announcement allowing subscribers of Cingular (News - Alert) Wireless, who also subscribe to AT&T wireline services can carry out free calls between any other customers belonging to these networks. The telecom will bundle these customers into what the company calls "the nation's largest unlimited free calling community," dubbed the AT&T Unity Plan.

The new plan includes subscriber-to-subscriber home, business and wireless calling. AT&T Unity customers can call or receive calls for free from any AT&T wireless and wireline phone numbers nationwide without using up their wireline or wireless Anytime minutes.
