Vonage (News - Alert) has chosen to pre-screen its VoIP devices for compatibility with its network at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). According to UNH-IOL's announcement, the lab is the first external testing facility to be approved by Vonage for this purpose.

Upon Vonage's request, vendors ship their VoIP device for testing to UNH-IOL. The UNH-IOL will be in charge of analyzing each VoIP device's calling abilities as well as its interoperability with the multi-vendor Vonage network. Once tested at UNH-IOL, the equipment will then be tested in the carrier's own lab.

"The UNH-IOL is a well-respected test house with a strong reputation for objectivity and a high degree of technical expertise," commented Vonage's senior vice president of Engineering Daniel Smires in a statement. "We're leveraging that expertise to safeguard network interoperability and to deliver the best possible services to our customers."

The lab will test devices as part of a service to members of its VoIP Consortium, program for vendors, service providers and forums such as the SIP Forum and IMS Forum (News - Alert) deliver quality, interoperable VoIP systems.

More info about the lab's Vonage VoIP device pre-qualification testing and other services can be found online.
