Verizon Business to Provide California's Government with IP Services

Via new agreements, Verizon (News - Alert) Business will provide IP and other communication services to state and local government offices in California. The agreements cover state and local government agencies, cities, counties and school districts.

Verizon Business will help these entities migrate to a suite of communications services as part of the Golden State's new CALNET II program. Through this program, the California Department of Technology Services tapped Verizon Business to provide a suite of IP services comprised of Hosted VoIP, private IP and managed services, and broadband fixed wireless access.

With an IP-based network upgrade, the state will be able to consolidate network management, migrate from traditional time division multiplexer (TDM) technology to VoIP and provide agencies with the necessary tools to migrate to new technologies and services.

"Verizon Business looks forward to expanding our relationship with California and working with the state to bring it advanced technology and services,'' said Alex Coleman, group president for Verizon Business' government and education organization. "By implementing new IP services, we can help state agencies control network costs while helping to improve the customer experience for California residents."
