Integra Telecom Investing in Network Upgrades

Portland, Oregon-based service provider Integra Telecom is reportedly investing more than $17 million in the network it acquired when it purchased Electric Lightwave last year. The network serves hundreds of businesses throughout the west, including companies in the cities of Portland, Seattle, Boise, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Sacramento.

The upgrade will increase the network’s capacity from 100 to 400 Gbps. Scheduled for completion later this year, it is part of an overall $28 million network upgrade and expansion project - the largest component of Integra’s projected $50 million 2007 capital budget.

John Nee, vice president of marketing for Integra Telecom, said, “Any customer who relies on those upgrades are now experiencing more reliability. We expect in Sacramento, in particular, to greatly penetrate the market with our services. This will allow Integra to grow in the Sacramento region.”

Integra Telecom acquired Electric Lightwave, a well-recognized provider of communications network services, on Aug. 1, 2006. Integra gained market strength by acquiring Electric Lightwave’s customer base and network assets, and as such became one of the most profitable local exchange carriers on the West coast.

The acquisition has proven beneficial to the provider’s customers. Integra Telecom was able to offer stronger local and regional telecommunications network alternatives and has become better equipped in offering powerful and unique high-bandwidth data products that are important to its business customers.

Integra Telecom is one of the fastest growing integrated communications carriers that provide network solutions to small and mid-sized businesses in the US. The company was recognized by The Portland Business Journal as one of Oregon’s “Most Admired Companies.” The company also made it to Inc. Magazine’s list of fastest growing private companies in the US for four years.
