Thomson's New LatAm Center Aids Operators Deploy IP Services
 TMCnet Contributing Editor
Thomson announced Friday that it is expanding its operations in Latin America by opening a center in Mexico City for its network software business. The company’s network software includes the Cirpack voice and SmartVision video service platforms for telecom and cable operators, as well as for Internet service providers and broadcasters.
Thomson’s voice platform is fully interoperable with both legacy (TDM ) and IP networks. The company also enables providers to add new services such as Fixed-Mobile Convergence ( News - Alert) and Mobile TV.
“With the demand for fixed line telephony exceeding supply, and the commencement of unbundling legislation, Latin America has become an important market for Thomson's VoIP and Triple play solutions,” commented Thomson's general manager of network software activity Jean-Pierre Dumolard, in a statement.
Dumolard continued: “The advance we have already gained in on this promising market is confirmed by the opening of our new offices in Mexico City and our strong regional experience.”
Thomson's new regional offices will be directed by Hatim Zougari, who will hold the title of Latin American regional sales manager of Thomson's network software. These locations will provide administration, sales and support services, as well as training.
Today's news follows Thomson's recent announcement about its Livephone, an IP DECT phone with HD Soundobile, being picked by mobile operator Orange to now be featured as part of its VoIP offering. Because the phone is wireless, it will allow Orange’s subscribers to benefit from using VoIP without having to be tethered to a fixed line. According to the companies, this is the first product available to the residential market which features HD sound technology. The devices are currently available in all Orange's shops in France.
