Kuehne + Nagel, a logistics services company, has chosen AT&T (News - Alert) to deploy a wireless local area network (WLAN) to support its large warehouses in Mexico. AT&T will also provide Kuehne + Nagel with equipment, installation and project management at each site.

The companies have agreed to ink a new contract that will expand Kuehne + Nagel's relationship with AT&T outside the United States. AT&T had deployed a similar network to support 25 of Kuehne + Nagel's warehouses across the United States during the last two years.

"We are pleased to extend our relationship with AT&T," commented Kuehne + Nagel's chief information officer Christophe Cachat in a statement. "As a business that is expanding globally, we must meet the specific needs of every region and feel confident that each site is performing at an optimal level. AT&T has provided outstanding service to our major facilities in the United States, and we are certain the new network will enhance the operations of our facilities in Mexico."

AT&T made news last week when its Government Solutions division announced it was tapped by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide support for the Secret IP Router Network (SIPRNET) among all of the military organization’s commands globally. The new contract is reportedly valued at $9.4 million.

SIPRNET is an interoperable command and control IP data network at the Department of Defense. The network is mainly used for exchanging information at the SECRET classification level.

The contract calls for AT&T to specifically provide the U.S. Marine Corps with Network Management, Information Assurance and Program Management for the SIPRNET Refresh Program. AT&T agreed to also expand Wide Area Network (WAN) security features including firewalls and intrusion detection systems, as well as upgrading SIPRNET WAN PoP transport and routing capabilities.
