Korean electronics giant Samsung (News - Alert) Electronics Co. has filed a lawsuit in the United States, alleging that Japanese semiconductor rival Renesas Technology Corp. infringed two of its memory chip patents, according to an Associated Press report.

According to a complaint Samsung filed with the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware on May 4, Samsung is seeking a permanent injunction that would bar Renesas and its subsidiaries from making, selling and importing into the U.S. products found to violate its chips patents, the report said.

A Renesas official was quoted as saying the company would look in the case but is "prepared to argue its case in court."

According to the report, Samsung spokeswoman Lee Eun-hee confirmed the suit had been filed, but declined to divulge details.

Samsung is one of the largest semiconductor suppliers and is ranked by market analysts as the leading maker of memory chips.
