 TMCnet Contributing Editor
Barracuda Networks has launched the Barracuda Spam Firewall 100 for small businesses and organizations with 50 users or less.
The solution offers an easy to use, powerful spam and virus protection at a price that is well within budget for smaller organizations.
“There was a time when small businesses could rely on alternative solutions to spam protection, including desktop software, email server plug-ins or even no spam protection, because they just were not targeted as often as medium and large enterprises,” said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks in a statement to the press.
Pao believes botnets have changed the spam landscape and now businesses of all sizes require a layer of spam protection in front of the email server. Pao said that Spam and virus protection at the gateway have become critical for even the smallest business and is confident that the Barracuda Spam Firewall 100, with its market disruptive pricing, will be the perfect solution for this market segment.
The Barracuda Spam Firewall 100 features the 12 layers of defense characteristic of the full Barracuda Spam Firewall line that include denial of service and security protection, rate control, IP analysis, sender authentication, recipient verification, virus protection, policy (user-specified rules), Fingerprint Analysis, Intent Analysis, Image Analysis, Bayesian Analysis, and a Spam Rules Scoring engine.
The solution also features the latest tools that can prevent image spam. These tools include multi-pass optical character recognition (OCR) and automated fingerprint generation techniques, as well as Predictive Sender Profiling, a technique preventing spammers from obfuscating their identities to circumvent reputation analysis.
Barracuda claims that combined, these protections result in a spam accuracy rating exceeding 95 percent out of the box.
The Barracuda Spam Firewall 100 is priced at $899 for the appliance and includes six months of Energize Updates service.
Barracuda Networks provides application security appliances for comprehensive email, Internet and IM protection.
