Poll: Most Business Professionals Bring Work Home
 TMCnet Contributing Editor
A survey carried out by Beyond.com Inc. said the majority of business professionals in today’s world bring their work home.
Beyond.com Inc., one of the largest niche career networks for business professionals, surveyed visitors across its network of more than 15,000 sites to discover how often business professionals bring work home. Out of 2,300 professionals, who participated in the poll, 65% said they bring work home.
Surprisingly, only 34.71%, "I never bring work home." A majority of survey participants responded that they bring work home either once or twice a week (23.09%).
While 29.82% said they bring work every day, 12.38% stated they bring work only on the weekend.
Rich Milgram, CEO of Beyond.com, said in a statement, "To remain competitive, companies need to continue to evolve their technology and service offerings. This effort often requires employees to be proactive and work longer hours inside and outside the office. However, professionals can still achieve a healthy work-life balance by working smarter and setting priorities and boundaries to help effectively manage their time."
To achieve a healthy balance between work and personal life, Beyond.com has suggested:
--Firstly, it says, prioritize work; and tackle items with deadlines or works which are most critical to the business.
--Secondly, start clearing off your desk to create a smooth workflow, eliminating confusion, distraction, and waste of time.
--What is important for employees, Beyond says, is they must not feel the burden of handling all tasks personally, instead they look to others for support, including fellow team members or other departments that possess expertise in certain areas.
--“Things rarely go according to plan, so build some time into the schedule for things that come up during the day,” it suggests.
--Finally, it advises employees not to get stuck in the world of e-mails. ”Email is a convenient form of communication, however it can be a great distraction when trying to complete a task. Know when it is time to step away from the inbox and complete more important projects,” it says.
