Diligent Technologies Inks OEM Deal with Overland Storage

Diligent Technologies has inked an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) deal with Overland Storage (News - Alert). Diligent’s ProtecTIER software has been selected as the de-duplication technology to power Overland’s REO 9500D storage solution.

Vernon LoForti, president and CEO of Overland Storage expressed his company’s delight to partner with Diligent in bringing to market a data de-duplicating VTL optimized for the needs of small to medium enterprises.

LoForti emphasized that the combination of their award-winning REO disk-based VTL appliance and Diligent’s ProtecTIER technology truly offers the best of both worlds— a total solution that transparently adds another tier of data protection to increase disk-based data retention, improved operational efficiencies and dramatically lower costs.

ProtecTIER, an enterprise de-duplication solution on the market boasts more than 20 PB of disk capacity under management across the globe. The solution’s embedded inline de-duplication technology, HyperFactor has the ability to effectively increase the usable capacity of each REO9500D model by up to 25x. This allows customers to protect significantly more data within cost effective and easy-to-manage appliances.

The companies believes that a combination of ProtecTIER with Overland’s REO platform is the optimal disk-based data protection solution for mid-sized environments, enabling high speed, reliable backup and recovery at the lowest price per GB of usable capacity on the market.

The agreement will enable Overland to bring the power of ProtecTIER’s inline de-duplication to its customers and channel partners. This will allow them to protect and retain more data on the proven and award-winning REO appliances.

According to Heidi Biggar, analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group, the OEM relationship with Overland Storage marks another significant milestone for Diligent and importantly for its ProtecTIER technology. She pointed out that the next six months will be very telling for vendors of de-duplication technology and believes that with access to Overland’s storage channels, Diligent puts itself in a good position to make a name for itself in small to medium-sized markets just as it has done at the high-end.

“This agreement marries two leading technologies: Diligent’s ProtecTIER, the industry’s most high-performance, flexible de-duplication platform, with Overland’s REO VTL appliance, the most successful mid-market VTL to date,” said Doron Kempel, chairman and CEO of Diligent Technologies in a statement.
