Dimension Data Sponsors City Year Spring Gala

Dimension Data recently was “silver” sponsor for New York City’s Ripples of Hope 2008 springtime gala, a City Year-organized event.
City Year, a non-profit organization, seeks to unite young people of all backgrounds for a year of full-time service. The past five years, Dimension Data has teamed with Cisco employees to support City Year projects in New York.
John Chambers ( News - Alert), chairman and CEO at Cisco, was recognized at the event for the commitment he and Cisco have made to City Year and specifically to the organization’s in-school service model, “Whole School Whole Child.”
The in-school service model, according to Dimension Data, focuses on keeping high-poverty students on track to graduate by supporting student success, contributing to a positive school climate, and engaging parents and community members.
Dimension Data’s officials said that this spring the employees of Cisco ( News - Alert) and Dimension Data are improving the rock garden at 160th Street and Elton Avenue in the Melrose community of the Bronx. Along with constructing benches, planter boxes and a stage for the garden, a group of volunteers will also remove debris and plant trees and shrubs throughout the garden.
“Working with City Year has been an uplifting experience for everyone involved,” said Jere Brown, CEO at Dimension Data Americas.
He also said that Cisco and John Chambers were among the first to team with City Year, and that the work completed has been exemplary.
“We congratulate John on this honor, and we also commend our employees who have donated their time, energy and talent to City Year New York,” Brown added. “We believe that their combined efforts will benefit New York City for years to come.”
“With City Year New York, our goal is to make our community a better place to live and play,” said Stacy Maites, strategic sales specialist at Cisco.
He also pointed out that Dimension Data was the first Cisco channel partner involved with Cisco in the City Year New York project more than five years ago, adding “we've been very successful in our work together.”
“This year's rock garden project is one of our most ambitious undertakings yet,” he said.
