Probaris, a company that serves the identity management software and solutions market, announced today that it’s secured a contract by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), a federal agency under the Department of Commerce.
According to the company, the contract is for work to help the agency comply with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), a presidential directive making a common identification standard mandatory for all federal government employees and contractors.
To ensure compatibility with the HSPD-12, Probaris officials say they’ll produce smart identity credentials for USPTO personnel deploying its Probaris ID, a complete end-to-end secure identity solution.
The credentials will be used by the USPTO for physical and logical access control within their enterprise architecture, according to the company. USPTO credentials will have the ability to interoperate with other federal agencies’ access systems, all of which have by now declared compliance with the FIPS-201 standard.
The personal identity verification (PIV) credentials produced by Probaris ID comply with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Federal Information Processing 201 (FIPS-201) requirements of HSPD-12, company officials say. The components verified by NIST and GSA ( News - Alert) are included in Probaris ID, which is delivered as a complete identity solution for enrollment and card issuance, according to the company.
Under the contract, the company will deliver identity proofing and document authentication software for prevention of fraud and duplicate registrations, secure workflow software to provide a chain of trust during the credential lifecycle, software enabling multi-biometric identification enrollment and management of facial images, live scan fingerprints, and fingerprint and card management system software, Probaris officials say.
Jim Bensman, the chief executive officer at Probaris, said the contract marks continued acceptance of its core product line and is based on the work that company has done with the Social Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Interior and the General Services Administration in the area of identity management.
