Smartlinx has signed a memorandum of understanding with Nettlinx Limited, an ISP and STPI service provider in India. Both the companies will help the government in developing a biometric based eGovernance system, the press release stated.

The Forest Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a work order to Nettlinx to develop a biometric based voting machine for pilot implementation. The parties anticipate that Nettlinx will initially use SmartVM in its development of this biometric based voting machine. Nettlinx will be helped by Smartlinx in the customization of SmartlinxVM with biometric based hardware.

Nettlinx will also get maintenance and support services from Smartlinx according to the agreement. The term of the memorandum of understanding is for a period of one year. Each party may terminate the memorandum of understanding upon providing one month's written notice to the other party.

Smartlinx designs and develops devices and applications to cater to specific needs of organizations. Its foolproof biometric identification and authentication system Smart VM is one such initiative which helps Governments, NGO's, E-Governance implementation agencies/departments. From planning to monitoring, and feedbacks, it ensures participation of beneficiary's right.

The Indian government is all set to incorporate eGovernance in its administration. E-governance originated in India during the 70s, which focused on in- house government applications in the areas of defense, economic monitoring, planning and the deployment of ICT to manage data intensive functions related to elections, census, tax administration etc.  Since then, the National Informatics Center (NIC (News - Alert)) has been putting in considerable efforts to connect all the district headquarters. E-governance has seen the use of IT for wider applications from the early 90s.

Recently, the company announced that it launched SmartVM an e-Governance application to be used in biometric systems that will leverage Fujitsu’s (News - Alert) Palm Vein Authentication technology. Fujitsu’s Vein Authentication technology is incorporated in the SmartVM application and will be used by Smartlinx for developing a pilot biometric based voting system for the Forest Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India.
