Crowdfunding' Platform for Developers to Raise Money for Work

Stateless Systems, a Web development company, introduced Fundry.com, which is described as a "crowdfunding platform for software developers."

Using the platform, developers will be able to raise funds for their work, "from open-source projects and WordPress plugins to iPhone (News - Alert) or Android applications," according to a Stateless Systems' press release.

User communities can contribute funds to the features they desire, the statement adds.

Fundry.com works as follows: Developers list a project. They also list features they expect to develop in that project. In addition, they consider requests from the community for features. These are either accepted or rejected.

When a feature is released in completed form, those donors who have made a pledge to funding the specific feature can accept or reject it within seven days.

Under the scenario, developers receive the pledges if a "majority of funders accept the feature."
Funders who want to make a pledge have to deposit money with Fundry.com using PayPal (News - Alert). Fundry has no minimum pledge rule. Fundry.com charges five percent on funding paid to a developer.

"The crowdfunding model is a natural fit for development projects and we see Fundry.com as a win-win for both developers and users," said Guy King, co-founder of Stateless Systems, in a statement. "The site helps developers get paid for their projects while a community of funders can contribute to the creation of features and applications they want to see."

King said they got positive feedback from developers who used Fundry.com during the beta test process.

They told Stateless Systems that the platform "has been a long time coming," King said.
Stateless Systems is a web development company founded in Australia in 2007. The company's offerings include: BugMeNot.com, Trendsmap.com, Fundry.com, CushyCMS.com, oursignal.com, Droolr.com, and MetaURI.com.

RetailMeNot.com, an online coupon website, was built by Stateless Systems. It was acquired by WhaleShark Media last month, according to a report from TMCnet.
