A well known provider of video eyewear products for the defense, consumer and media and entertainment markets, Vuzix Corporation is soon to deliver its first volume shipments of Tac-Eye LT displays to the U.S. Air Force's Battlefield Air Operations Kit Program.

In a press release, Vuzix explained that a next generation wearable display solution, Tac-Eye LT can be used for viewing computer data or video from a variety of video sensors.

Lightweight, ruggedized head mounted display solution Tac-Eye LT has been designed keeping the military applications in mind. The system was developed over the last five years with funding support from various U.S. military commands, the company revealed. The establishments that funded the project include the Air Force Research Laboratory (News - Alert), Air Force Special Operations Command and the U.S. Special Operations Command.

Vuzix further added that the Tac-Eye LT display mounts to any standard issue ballistic eyewear or helmet and connects to a laptop or computer system. It also has the ability to stream video from tactical cameras, unmanned aircraft and robots, unattended sensor systems, and some radio devices. According to its maker, the Tac-Eye LT is designed and tested to the 810G and IP67 environmental standards.

"Vuzix is proud to support the Battlefield Airmen, who have provided instrumental input to the successful design and development of the Tac-Eye LT. The combat reviews and comments from the Battlefield Airmen community allowed us to customize our product to their specific needs and ultimately made Tac-Eye a better product. The Tac-Eye will help to increase the Airmen's situational awareness, decrease their carried combat load, and increase their safety while on the battlefield," said president and CEO of Vuzix, Paul Travers, in a statement.

According to the company, the first batch of delivery will fetch the company a cool $1 million. It is also expected to bring approximately $3 million of new business to Vuzix if all options of the contract are exercised, the company officials divulged.

Recently Vuzix demonstrated widescreen virtual reality video eyewear, Wrap VR1200 at CES (News - Alert). In the demonstration the company said that WrapVR1200 provides a viewing experience similar to a 75-inch flat panel television viewed from 10 feet.
