As digital home entertainment networks are gaining more popularity, consumer electronics (CE) manufacturers are faced with meeting the demand for digital home entertainment software technology and products that support network connectivity.

Rovi Corporation, a digital entertainment technology company has been enabling consumer electronics manufacturers to connect consumers to digital entertainment content across multiple digital home entertainment solutions. The company recently announced its collaboration with Hisense (News - Alert), a provider of flat panel TVs, household appliances, and mobile communications.
The agreement was signed to integrate Rovi's DivX Plus Streaming into a new range of Hisense Smart TVs.

The latest agreement continues the momentum for the advanced adaptive streaming format, which has quickly gained the support of major studios, IC manufacturers, device makers, and retailers since being unveiled last year.
'As the number one TV brand in China, Hisense will help us quickly build a large footprint of devices that support our DivX Plus Streaming technology in the region,' Matt Milne, executive vice president, worldwide sales and marketing at Rovi Corporation said in a statement.
'Simultaneously, we are continuing to work with content owners and distributors in China to enable over-the-top storefronts that will provide convenient access to premium movies and TV entertainment in our advanced streaming format.'
DivX Plus Streaming brings a robust, cutting-edge feature set to streaming media that is typically characteristic of the Blu-ray Disc consumer experience. By dynamically adjusting video streams and delivering maximum visual quality based on available bandwidth, DivX Plus Streaming virtually eliminates skipping, pauses, and buffering during video playback.
The solution supports 1080p high definition, subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play features such as smooth fast forward and rewind, quick-start playback, and resume playback across devices. DivX Plus Streaming expands the value of the already popular DivX Plus HD Certification program, which brings these same advanced multimedia features to 'download to own' video content.
'Hisense is constantly looking for ways to innovate and improve our product lines,' Chuansheng Zhang, product director, Hisense said in a statement.
'Bringing new features to over-the-top entertainment and helping virtually eliminate playback problems or interruptions, DivX Plus Streaming supports this mandate and will be a welcome addition to our Smart TVs,' Zhang added.
