Qualcomm Atheros Launches New AV2 Chipset for HomePlug Portfolio
Qualcomm Technologies' networking and connectivity subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros (News
), introduced a new HomePlug AV2 (HPAV2) compliant solution at Broadband World Forum.
Officials revealed that by using the new QCA7450/AR1540 chipset, consumers can use the existing power outlets in the house to enhance coverage and multimedia streaming performance leveraging ultra high-speed connectivity of over 500 Mbps.

) solutions to deliver optimum performance for today's new and emerging applications, such as 3D video, interactive gaming and multi-screen HD viewing."
"As the industry embraces HPAV2 technology, we can expect gigabit-capable HomePlug powerline solutions to be introduced by our partners and customers," Rabinovitsj added.
The new solution will upgrade HomePlug AV and network efficiency significantly. Also, HomePlug's operating frequency bandwidth is extended from 30MHz to 85MHz. The SISO and MIMO multiple profiles increase data rates to more than one gigabit per second.
The new QCA7450/AR1540 enhances networking foundation and makes the home network compatible for carrier-class services on incorporating with broadband gateways, retail routers and hybrid range extenders and other devices.
The SmartLink Plus option in the solution's chipset reference design allows the transmission of powerline signals on multiple wires, improving the connectivity range cost effectively with better performance features.
This innovation reduces design complexity but delivers better performance compared to previous generations of SmartLink-enabled products, said officials.
