Safety and security in the school environment have become 'top priority,' and officials from Motorola (News - Alert) Solutions and SchoolSAFE were seen to be in close communications with Chardon Area Schools and local public safety officials to find a way to keep students, staff, and faculty safe when an untoward incident takes place.

The result was the launching of the SchoolSAFE Solution, which is expected to instantly link school staff to police, fire and to state first responders on their Project 25 interoperable network, whenever there is an emergency.

"Schools are an instrumental part of our communities and Motorola Solutions is pleased to be working with Chardon Area Schools and SchoolSAFE on this innovative communications solution to help build an even safer environment for teachers, students and staff," said Mark Kroh, vice president, North America Channels, Motorola Solutions.

Approximately 250 radios equipped with the SchoolSAFE Solution have been provided to Ohio school administrators and staff at 10 Chardon Area Schools.

Chardon Schools can now implement school safety planning and training, helping school safety personnel to respond immediately during emergencies. In addition individual schools can also communicate with each other.

"The Chardon Local Schools are pleased to have been selected by Motorola Solutions and SchoolSAFE for the implementation of this program, and appreciate the strong relationship we have with our local government officials and first responders," Michael P. Hanlon, Jr., Ph.D., superintendent, Chardon Local Schools.

Usually, whenever there is an incident at a school, the only way to contact safety authorities is by making a phone call, and even when the responders arrive on the scene, it takes time to locate the place of the incident. Now with SchoolSAFE equipment permanently installed and integrated into school and public safety data networks, the task of gaining control and ensuring safety, is made easier.

The State of Ohio uses the statewide MARCS public safety radio system, developed by Motorola, for interoperable communications throughout the state.

In collaboration with Motorola, MARCS has now developed the' MARCS In-School Radio System' that will hopefully prove to be a lifeline when things go wrong in schools.
