MegaPath Provides Cloud Hosting Services to N.J. Entertainment Company

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Cloud Computing

When an organization makes the decision to physically relocate its office, many businesses realize that their old operating systems are inefficient, costly and outdated. What often follows is a change for the better as the company decides to implement improved ways of conducting business.

Prior to relocating its office from one town to another in New Jersey before Hurricane Sandy hit and in evaluating the costs to move its existing PBX (News - Alert)-based phone and email system, Drew’s Entertainment realized it would be an expensive endeavor.

Instead, the newly Green Brook, N.J.-based company chose to implement MegaPath’s (News - Alert) Hosted Exchange and Hosted Voice services, which company officials said streamlined costs and functionality that their previous phone system did not offer.

As Drew’s Entertainment prepared to relocate to its office from Edison, N.J. to Green Brook, the company evaluated its costs and determined it would be expensive and time-consuming to move its existing PBX-based phone and e-mail system to the new location.

Hurricane Sandy destroyed everything in the company’s existing facility – from the carpets and walls to the servers, according to Les Kurian, who oversees IT operations for Drew Route 22, the parent company of Drew’s Entertainment.

“After going through that, we decided it did not make sense to acquire and operate these items on-premises in our new facilities,” Kurian said.

In the midst of the company’s move, Hurricane Sandy flooded its existing facility and ruined the entire server network. Instead of replacing the physical servers, Drew Route 22 and its subsidiaries added MegaPath’s Enterprise Cloud Hosting to their communications investment, ensuring that corporate data would be safe from future natural and manmade disasters.

The transition to hosted voice services has reduced the companies’ server size from six physical servers to three virtual servers and allowed Drew’s Entertainment and Drew Route 22 to resume operations within two days of ordering the cloud services.

Kurian summarized, “With MegaPath’s cloud-based services, we can rest assured that we have a reliable business continuity solution in place and our teams can easily and securely communicate with their colleagues, partners and customers from any location.”
