Legal Research Software Receives Upgrade to Improve Workflow, Simplify, and Provide Consistency

By Casey Houser, Contributing Writer

An online legal research company announced this week that it has launched a new user interface for its legal information service that seeks to provide users with a customizable and efficient experience that works across all devices.

LexisNexis (News - Alert) offers the Lexis Advance research tool for legal professionals so they can search for information in news releases, public documents, and legal documents through more than 60,000 sources. Now, it is offering users an enhanced workflow service that can help users track their progress across all steps of their research. Sean Fitzpatrick, managing director of the North American Research Solutions business at LexisNexis, commented in the company's announcement about the pressures which legal professionals are under and how Lexis Advance's new workflow system can help them save time and improve their overall search results.

"Legal professionals work under enormous business and time pressures as they solve complex problems and mitigate risk for their clients, agencies and companies," Fitzpatrick said. "With its intuitive design and faster, more flexible navigation, Lexis Advance directly addresses their needs to quickly turn insights into action. They now have a powerful tool that not only helps them get to trusted results easily, but also allows them to pursue research in a way that best suits their workflow, search approach, and location."

The company says its interface redesign was motivated by simplicity. It says the features of Lexis Advance have all been retained; however, users will get to experience those same features in a way that invites a more consistent experience and allows users to get to popular features easier. In addition to its ability to search through documents and legal assets and for users to employ keywords, cases, and full Boolean searches, LexisNexis has added a few features alongside its redesign.

These new features include search suggestions that occur based on the most-utilized search phrases; expanded access to content such as constitutional archives, administrative code archives, and selected international titles; enhanced mobile access with a graphical experience that conforms to screens better based on their sizes; and alerts to product updates and legal archive updates. As it always has, Lexis Advance will continue to work with other NexisLexis products such as its Verdict and Settlement Analyzer and MedMal Navigator for medical malpractice research.
