Is Microsoft's Azure IoT Building Up to Be the Next Standard?

The question on many people’s lips is whether Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Azure Internet of Things suite is going to become the new universal standard. While the answer is pretty obvious to some and not so obvious to others, there are still a pretty large number of people that are oblivious to the situation altogether. There are many factors that imply Microsoft’s Azure Internet of Things will eventually be a universal standard but not everyone is ready to accept it.

The importance of IoT

The Internet of Things best represents the connection between physical and digital, and the connection that physical devices are able to create between one another through the digital spectrum. A couple of years ago, the Internet of Things wasn’t nearly as bright of a shining star as it is today as far as trends go.

In today’s business sector, but also in the domestic consumer space, the Internet of Things plays a very important role as it is responsible for the interconnectivity of everything tech. That in itself speaks for the importance of IoT, considering the insane demand for interconnectivity and ability to connect with other devices. People want to be able to use their devices in relation with any other piece of tech, and today’s technology just happens to be strong enough to make that happen. It is estimated that over 20 billion items will be connected by the time we reach the year 2020, which further speaks for the necessity of interconnectivity.

The benefits of IoT and why Microsoft is pushing Azure IoT

The benefits of IoT are among the least necessary things to be stated, as they are blatantly present at both a small and large scale. Through the IoT, people are able to push machines to new limits and benefit from increased production levels and elevated efficiency ratings. This is possible through a thorough optimization of said machines based on data collected from other machines and from other services. And how do you obtain that information in real time and use it to boost the capabilities of your equipment? That’s right, through the IoT.

From the dawn of time, knowledge has represented power and thorough communication has always yielded great results no matter what the subject of the matter had proven to be. Today, that’s truer than ever before and, with the help of the IoT, machines and smart devices are able to pick up on that notion by always being in contact.

Microsoft’s involvement with the IoT shouldn’t be a surprise, as the company behind the most popular operating system in the world has always had a knack for innovation. Microsoft is known for having a hand in a lot of innovative and revolutionary projects, concepts and ideals. When you think about what the IoT stands for and what it aims, and then pair it with a company which holds the most massive network in the world, it’s fairly easy to begin to see the advantages and promises of Azure IoT.
