Need Money Now and Fast in the Lead Up to Christmas? Here's How Getting Tech Savvy Could Help You to Cut the Cost of Festivities

We’re all starting to panic a little, aren’t we? Unless you’re one of those ridiculously organised people who have their Christmas shopping finished in its entirety by the end of September, then chances are you’re starting to feel the financial pressure that the festive season brings as soon as December begins to loom ever closer.

If you’re getting a little worried about money in the lead up to Christmas, did you know that getting tech savvy could save you some money this year? Today we’re going to look at exactly how you can do that.

Look for a Student Code

No one needs money now fast more than students, and that’s why they get offered a multitude of discounts online that the rest of us don’t. If you have a student in the family, then make the most of it and ask them for help!

So many online websites, particularly clothing sites such as ASOS and Missguided offer student discounts on their products year round – and even more so during the festive season. The vast majority of the time, all you need is a student email address and a code – so as long as you know a student who’s happy to share this information with you, then you’re good to go!

This is a great tip if you’re looking to get yourself some new festive outfits, or some presents for family and friends.

Do Your Food Shop Online

As well as doing your present and outfit shopping online, try getting your Christmas dinner on the internet too!

The trouble with doing your Christmas dinner shopping in the shop, is that it’s so tempting to buy more than you actually need to. Shops are very strategic in their placement of things, because they know exactly how consumers work. Say the turkey is in one section of the shop. You can bet your wage that there’ll be either the perfect port or side nearby that you just HAVE to buy to go with your turkey this year.

When you’re online, it’s a lot easier to avoid this. It’s also easier to sway away from the “two for one” deals that are so constantly plastered all over the shops. Give shopping online a go this year – and you’ll be so surprised at how much you could save on your food and drink!

Look for Train Ticket Discounts

If you’re needing to travel via train close to Christmas this year, then there are two ways of getting your tickets for a cheaper price.

The first of these, is to book well in advance. We’re already past the six week mark before Christmas day unfortunately, because if you can book six weeks in advance then you’ll save the most. So basically what we’re saying, is BOOK YOUR TRAIN TICKETS ASAP. The sooner you book, the more you’ll save, so get booking now! You’ll be pleased you did so when you see the prices sky rocket the closer we get to the 25th.

Another great way of saving if you can’t book in advance, is by booking split train fares. There are all sorts of train splitting apps nowadays, where the only disadvantage is you might have to change trains once or twice at different stations. Providing trains are on time, however, it’s really easy – and if trains are delayed, then most of the time they’re understanding and cater for connecting trains. It’s worth it to half the price of a fare, trust us.

Make the Most of Black Friday (News - Alert)

Finally, do you know what day it is this Friday? It’s the 29th November, which is the official date of this year’s Black Friday deals. Save money and time, and make the most of them online!

Of course, there’s only a certain amount of stock, so think of it as a first come first serve basis. The great thing about doing it online is as soon as the clock strikes twelve on Thursday night/Friday morning, you’ll be able to start your shopping – provided you can stay awake!

Never miss out on a good deal from your favourite stores too, by subscribing to email alerts from them. Junk mail is annoying at the best of times, but if it’s going to save us cash, we can make an exception.
