Think and Grow Rich

Napoleon Hill — Think and Grow Rich studied 500 of the richest people in the world and found 17 characteristics of success. Five are so important that I ‘m going to talk about them now. I personally feel that the most important discovery he made besides these 17 principles was that none of these people were born with these attributes. Everyone developed these characteristics; everyone had to learn these elements of success.

  1. The first principal Napoleon Hill discovered was Burning desire. If you want to be successful in life. You must have a burning desire, a passion, an inner drive that makes winners out of ordinary people.
  2. Specialized knowledge. You must have specialized knowledge. You cannot be a jack of all trades, master of none. Recently at my martial arts class, there was a visiting master talking to us about Kung Fu. His definition was that Fu means a person; Kung means long time work/practice/dedication, and it reminded me of specialized knowledge. He used examples of scientists, engineers, and I would add each of you to the mix.
  3. Be decisive in nature. You must become decisive in nature. You cannot be successful without the ability to make correct decisions.
  4. Be goal oriented. Know where you are going and the process of getting there. You must have a map, a process or methodology. Otherwise, how will you know if you reached your goal? Without a map you leave your life up to luck, chance, or an accident.
  5. Masterminding, mentoring. Surround yourself with like minded individuals. They help keep you on track, help with a different perspective, and keep the fire lit under you. I call this support and can come from many sources – family, friends, co-workers, community organizations, online columns, etc.
