INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine Declares 2006 ‘Year of VoIP Peering’

Norwalk, CT, [October 13, 2005] — Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC) president and VoIP and communications visionary Rich Tehrani sees 2006 as the year when VoIP peering becomes mainstream. Recent events in the VoIP peering market from companies such as VoIP Inc. and XO Communications joining the Voice Peering Fabric demonstrate the tremendous thirst the VoIP community is showing for peering.

VoIP Peering allows voice over IP traffic to traverse from one network to another. Without VoIP peering, a Skype Out call to a Vonage user would have to traverse the PSTN or public switched telephone network. Not only does this reduce call quality, it adds delay and increases costs due to fees and taxes associated with the PSTN. VoIP peering allows service providers, enterprises and government agencies to directly to connect to other VoIP users allowing pure IP communications.

According to Tehrani, who is also Group Editor-in-Chief of leading VoIP magazine, INTERNET TELEPHONY, the VoIP peering market has reached critical mass and the few VoIP service providers who have not embraced peering up until this point will be forced to reconsider due to competitive pressure and the tremendous savings afforded by this relatively new concept.

“When we launched the world's first VoIP Peering Summit back in February of this year at INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO in Miami, we were amazed at how many worldwide service providers attended. There were standing room only crowds in virtually every conference session, all day,” explained Tehrani.

“That alone told us that the service provider community was beginning to recognize the great advantages peering holds for them,” Tehrani added.

The world’s second-ever VoIP Peering Summit will be held later this month during INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO Fall 2005 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The event runs October 24-27, 2005. (www.itexpo.com)

Both of these VoIP peering visionaries helped craft the educational program for VoIP Peering Summit and will be on hand to educate the world's service providers on how VoIP peering can reduce the cost of calling, increase quality and make VoIP more accessible to the world's populations.
