Glenayre Messaging Introduces VoiceSMS

TMCnet Assistant Editor

Bringing together voice mail and SMS capabilities, Glenayre Messaging announced today VoiceSMS capabilities on its next-generation Versera ICE messaging platform.

Glenyare Messaging, a division of Glenyare Technologies Inc., provides next generation messaging solutions and services. Their Versera ICE (Intelligent Communications Environment) solution is an "open standards-based, next-generation messaging solution architected in Java and Voice XML". It offers a flexible environment for deploying new messaging applications and provides operators with the ability to keep up with market demand, reduce costs, recognize new revenue opportunities and attract additional subscribers.

For subscribers, the VoiceSMS solution eliminates the need to type into a keypad and for longer messages it removes the limitation of characters typically allowed when sending text messages. When a user is unavailable and a voice message is necessary, VoiceSMS allows communication to occur. VoiceSMS is also an idea solution for leaving messages while driving.

By dialing a short code and the phone number of recipient, users leave a voice message and an SMS message is sent then to the recipient notifying them of the VoiceSMS message. By clicking on a link within that SMS message, the recipient is then able listen to the sender's message.

For operators, additional opportunities in revenue streams are created when subscribers send, reply and replay to their VoiceSMS messages.

Glenayre will demonstrate Versera VoiceSMS for the first time ever at CommunicAsia in Singapore, June 20-23.
