SunRocket Secures $33 Million in Funding

VoIP service provider SunRocket announced today that it secured $33 million for its Series C round of financing, bringing the company's total venture capital raised to approximately $80 million. BlueRun Ventures, Mayfield Fund, DCM and Anthem Capital Management participated in the funding round.

Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company, a pension insurer in Finland, participated in the Series C round along with The Grosvenor Funds, a Washington, D.C.-based venture capital firm, and Bru Venture Capital (BVC), a private equity and venture firm with investments in the U.S. and Europe.

"The additional commitment from existing investors signals an unwavering belief that SunRocket has found the right recipe for success to strategically grow our customer base and implement the necessary fiscal restraint to achieve near-term profitability," said SunRocket's president and CEO Lisa Hook. "The Grosvenor Funds, Varma and BVC have strong relationships with our current [investors] and share SunRocket's enthusiasm to build an Internet phone company that knows no boundaries when it comes to delivering innovation and value to the customer."

SunRocket got on the VoIP Minute Watch radar when it announced one of the industry's first annual VoIP calling plans back in July. The company's SunRocket SunSpots Edition all-inclusive calling plan allows consumers to make unlimited calls to any of the 41 countries and cities designated as SunRocket SunSpots for $299.

SunRocket SunSpots includes calls to most of Europe, Far East destinations like China, Japan and South Korea, Latin American destinations like Mexico City, São Paulo, Caracas, and Argentina, plus other locations worldwide. Calls to mobile phones are not included in the plan, and are charged at lower per-minute rates depending on the destination.
