XO Providing Network Services to Availius

TMCnet Contributing Editor

XO Communications (News - Alert) has agreed to supply Availius with high capacity network services. Availius is a subsidiary of FiberNet Telecom Group, a provider of complex interconnection services.

The companies inked an agreement calling for XO to provide Availius with 2.5 Gbps long haul and metro private line services and other high-speed transport services in multiple markets across the U.S. Availius plans to use XO's nationwide long haul and metro network transport services to support its Network Solutions business. This service provides network connectivity, monitoring and management.

"With our Network Solutions business steadily increasing, so is our need for long haul transport services," commented Availius' vice president of Business Development John Dowd in a statement. "XO has long been one of FiberNet’s reliable providers so it was a natural decision to turn to them for these services."

Today's news follows XO's announcement about scoring a five-year contract from the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County (Metro) to provide metro dark fiber services. The new contract calls for XO to create a high-speed data network which will connect twenty-two major government administration buildings, including emergency response, police, fire, and other city services. The company is already the owner and operator of a large fiber network in Nashville, which spans more than 450 route miles across that metro area.

XO had recently completed its new nationwide inter-city fiber optic network and is now carrying customer traffic across additional routes. The company’s new nationwide inter-city network spans 18,000 route miles connecting 75 major metropolitan markets across the United States.
