Teleca and Texas Instruments Enable Dual Display for Android

Telaca has been working closely with Texas Instruments (News - Alert) to bring a new user experience to Android. By extending key aspects of the Android platform such as the graphics framework, a demonstration platform has been created to enable applications to run independently on a second display.

 

Such dual displays have been rendered possible by leveraging the combination of Teleca's vast experience with Android (News - Alert) and the power of the OMAP 4 platform from Texas Instruments.

 

Texas Instruments exhibited the demonstrator, which is the first step to enabling full dual display support for Android, at the MWC. Several initial use cases were showcased.

 

The concept of dual display would imply that it is possible to select applications on one display, but have them launched on the second display. For instance, it is possible to browse the media gallery on one display, and display the pictures on another.

 

“We believe that implementing support for dual display support for Android is an exciting development for the consumer electronics markets as device vendors seek new ways to differentiate their offerings,” said Andrew Till, vice president, solutions marketing, Teleca, in a release.

 

Till added that working with Texas Instruments on their latest OMAP platform to create the demonstrator had enabled Teleca to further demonstrate its ability to solve complex technical challenges.
