According to the reports, Ericsson (News - Alert) has signed an agreement to be the partner of SingTel in deploying Singapore's first commercial 4G/LTE network. While establishing the 4G/LTE network, SingTel (News - Alert) has leveraged Ericsson's expertise to transform its current 2G/3G network into a multi-standard network with 4G/LTE (News - Alert) capability.

Deployed on both the 1.8GHz and 2.6GHz frequency bands, the network will have full island wide coverage by early 2013. Also, SingTel plans to deploy heterogeneous network solutions to cater to high-traffic areas.
'With the introduction of LTE-capable smartphones and tablets, meeting consumer demands for faster services and better performance is critical. We have been working hard on the rollout of our network with Ericsson,' said Yuen Kuan Moon, CEO Consumer Singapore at SingTel, in a statement.

Nicholas Seow, president and Country Manager for Singapore and Brunei at Ericsson, says, 'Partnering with a leading carrier such as SingTel is of key importance to Ericsson as SingTel is one of the most advanced carriers in the region. I'm delighted with SingTel's continued trust in us as key supplier, and I believe this collaboration shows how Ericsson can help operators to successfully execute large and demanding projects. This reaffirms our leadership in the 4G/LTE market and extends our long-standing relationship with SingTel, which dates back to 2003.'
Meanwhile, (SingTel) today announced that it aims to be a leading mobile commerce hub in the Asia Pacific region in five years, providing customers with a compelling suite of mobile payment and marketing services. As a first step to fulfilling this vision, it has opened a remittance center in Lucky Plaza at the heart of Orchard Road. SingTel will break new ground by launching Singapore's first mobile-to-mobile remittance service at the end of 2012. It will also progressively launch a wide range of consumer mobile commerce services throughout the year that will complement its existing Near Field Communications (NFC) contactless mobile payment services.
