Messaging and location technology provider and an expert in mobile cloud computing, TeleCommunication Systems (News - Alert), Inc. announced the winning of $2.9 million order from a major U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) medical campus for its In-Building Wireless (IBW) solutions.

According to the company, TCS IBW solutions have been designed to provide secure, reliable communications inside structures where radio frequency (RF) signals typically do not penetrate, or become interrupted. Together with TCS broadband satellite technologies and wireless local area network (WLAN/Wi-Fi) solutions, IBW solutions can augment the connectivity vital to workplace production in today's wireless environment. Over the past 12 months, the company has received more than $12 million in orders for its IBW product family.

The DoD contract requires TCS to design and install a highly reliable and secure distributed antenna system covering 15 buildings on the medical campus. On implementation, testing and support services will also be provided by the TCS professionals.

In the healthcare sector, doctors and other professionals depend a lot on the wireless devices and applications for timely access to telemedicine applications containing critical data. For this, the healthcare facilities need reliable access to broadband wireless service

For each IBW customer, TCS performs a detailed system design that considers the existing technologies in the space where communications coverage is needed and analyzes the radio frequency environment. TCS has successfully implemented 'five-bars' enhanced reception solutions for military medical campuses throughout the National Capital region enabling critical, life-saving support to active military personnel and veterans.

"Hospitals, government offices and commercial buildings need reliable, secure, 'carrier-agnostic' coverage for every part of their buildings. Our customers recognize that TCS In-Building Wireless solutions provide their employees, guests and customers with vital coverage for mobile devices, including mobile telephones, laptop and tablet computers and two-way radios, and that's why we have been able to reach this important $12 million-plus mark in orders received," senior vice president and general manager of Government Solutions Group for TCS Mike Bristol explained in a statement.
