Webinar - GENBAND Offers Mobile Carriers Guidance on Virtualization, VoLTE

The only constant is change. Nowhere is that more applicable today than in mobile networks.

In addition to the ever-growing demand for bandwidth and spectrum to support rich media traffic like video, mobile network operators are challenged with implementing VoLTE, which is a whole new thing considering it involves voice running over IP connections. As if that’s not enough, the very nature of mobile service provider networks are now changing due to virtualization, which implements network functions as software running over industry-standard hardware as opposed to appliances that deliver hardware and software as a package.

GENBAND (News - Alert) refers to the dual challenges of virtualization and VoLTE as the V-squared mobile carrier challenge. And the company has put together a webinar to help mobile network operators address this challenge.

During this webinar, attendees will learn how to ensure end-to-end quality of experience around VoLTE. That will include discussions about security, signaling and media interoperability, new VoLTE roaming architectures, and migration to virtual NFV infrastructures.

The webinar is scheduled for Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. PST/ 2 p.m. EST. The title of this webinar is “Solving the New ‘V-Squared Mobile Carrier Challenge: VoLTE and Virtualization.” The featured speakers are Ashish Jain, director of solutions marketing at GENBAND, and Greg Collins, founder of Exact Ventures. The number of active VoLTE subscribers worldwide is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 165 percent over five years, according to iGR in a study published in March of 2015.

“With the many new VoLTE deployments of the last year [2014], VoLTE has started to impact not only mobile operators, but also consumers," said Iain Gillott, president and founder of iGR, a market research consultancy focused on the wireless and mobile industry. “Consumers are seeing the benefit of many new multimedia products and services that mobile operators can offer as they move from legacy voice solutions to the new platform.”

Meanwhile, NFV enables service providers to move more quickly to address network requirements and introduce new capabilities, as well as potentially save money on their networks.

“NFV offers service providers and their customers the opportunity to easily deliver new services, reduce costs, and improve flexibility, especially as enterprises migrate to full-cloud or hybrid-cloud architectures,” said Irwin Lazar, vice president and service director, Nemertes Research.
