Webinar - Bridging the Gap Between IT and OT in the Industrial Internet of Things

The Internet of Things, or IoT, is upon us. The IoT is the network of physical objects, or “things” that contain sensors, software or other technologies that connect to the Internet to share information. It might be a phone checking in location information with an app, or a machine that regularly informs a company’s engineers and maintenance workers about its operability status and its maintenance needs. The latter example is parts of what’s called the IIoT, or the Industrial Internet of Things.

To work properly, IIoT components must have broad levels of interoperability, but this isn’t always the case. The Industrial IoT relies on the ability for devices to send and receive data into the cloud and between systems.

What makes Industrial IIoT projects particularly difficult is the lack of interoperability between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT). Given their disparate functions, the two worlds have historically existed in siloes – OT is about the monitoring, control of industrial assets and the acquisition of sensor data, while the IT function is steeped in enterprise systems and cloud applications. With both these worlds using entirely different sets of technologies and tools, it has become critical to bridge the gap between them to ensure a successful IIoT transformation.

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am EST, SIerra Wireless will sponsor a webinar entitled, “Driving IT-OT Alignment in Your IIoT Project.” Attendees will learn how all-in-one edge-to-cloud IIoT solutions have made it significantly easier to connect industrial assets to the cloud and bring powerful computing, analytics and application execution capabilities to where OT systems operate. In addition, attendees will earn how industrial companies can build and scale their IIoT applications at a fraction of the cost and time. As an example of a successful IT and OT alignment, Sierra Wireless (News - Alert) Octave and Microsoft Azure IoT Central will be examined to demonstrate how they are bridging the gap between OT and IT, and empowering companies to unlock the benefits of the Industrial IoT.
