Beceem Communications Receives Investment from DoCoMo Capital

Mobile chipset developer for WiMAX technologies Beceem Communications received an investment from DoCoMo Capital, the company announced today.
 
DoCoMo Capital, a subsidiary of NTT DoCoMo of Japan, invests in venture-backed start-ups that will collaborate with advanced technologies in the United States, furthering NTT DoCoMo’s presence in the mobile communications market.
 
“We have chosen to invest in Beceem due to its advanced technology position in wireless, especially when it comes to MIMO and Smart Antenna techniques. This relationship will give us a good view of the capabilities of the Wireless Broadband technology as we investigate the future of OFDMA based Wireless Broadband solutions” said Nobuyuki Akimoto, CEO of DoCoMo Capital.


 
Beceem Communications develops solutions incorporating advanced wireless communication techniques based on IEEE 802.16 standards recommendations, playing an integral role in the WiMAX environment, working with both terminal and base station OEMs on early integration and interoperability testing.

 
“The investment from DoCoMo Capital will enable Beceem to benefit from the expertise of one of the world’s leading wireless operators, NTT DoCoMo. We are looking forward to a close collaboration that will allow Beceem to expand its leadership in Mobile WiMAX chipsets” said Shahin Hedayat, CEO & Co-founder of Beceem.
 
Beceem Communications also received a considerable investment from Intel (News - Alert) Corporation’s Intel Capital in March.
