AT&T Tapped by Enbridge to Deliver IP-VPNTMCnet Contributing Editor Enbridge, an energy, transportation and distribution company in North America just awarded a three-year $9 million networking contract to AT&T for the integration of an advanced Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) system. The new agreement renews the long-standing relationship between the two companies.
AT&T's global networking platform will incorporate AT&T's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, connecting more than 225 Enbridge sites across the United States and Canada. AT&T's MPLS network is comprised of more than 1,500 nodes with service availability in more than 127 countries. AT&T's IP VPN system will enable Enbridge employees to easily and securely access data and applications residing on a particular server, providing Enbridge's staff access to real-time info about the natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids and other liquid hydrocarbons flowing through their pipelines.
"We transport more than 2 million barrels of liquid hydrocarbons each day across North America and each day deliver about 5 billion cubic feet of natural gas, so it is critical that we have real-time access to accurate information," said Ben Backor, director of transportation services and information systems at Enbridge's Houston office. "AT&T's networking solutions provide the security, stability and reliability we expect and the service and value we demand."
AT&T (News - Alert) will also provide Enbridge with video and audio conferencing; domestic and international long distance and toll-free services.
Just last week, AT&T announced that it inked a new voice and data services contract with East West Bank, a Los Angeles-based independent commercial bank. East West Bank provides retail and commercial banking services to individuals and businesses in California and Texas.
The new, three-year contract calls for AT&T to deploy a Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) system and AT&T's Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology. These will be used to connect the bank's more than 70 locations throughout California and Texas to two core data centers supported by the AT&T network backbone. AT&T's MPLS network is comprised of more than 1,500 nodes with service availability in more than 127 countries.
