Tekelec announced that two competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs), Burlington Telecom and Crocker Telecommunications have deployed the Tekelec (News - Alert) 7000 Class 5 Packet Switch (Tekelec 7000) and Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server (Tekelec 6000) to deliver voice, Internet and video services.

The Tekelec 7000 is a softswitch that integrates with IP and time division multiplexing (TDM) network interfaces, enabling a smoother network migration to VoIP. The Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server integrates with Tekelec's switching platforms to enable delivery of voice, data, video and wireless services.

The new agreement announced today enabled Burlington Telecom, the new fiber-optic public network operated by the city of Burlington, Vt., to deploy Tekelec's switching platforms to enable the launch of triple-play broadband Internet, cable TV and voice services early this year for the city's residents, businesses and government agencies.

"We evaluated many products, and Tekelec's combined Class 5 packet switch and VoIP applications server was the best choice to help us quickly roll out reliable services for our community with minimal impact to our network investments," said Chris Burns, chief operating officer, Burlington Telecom.

Greenfield, Mass.-based Crocker Telecommunications delivers voice and data services, including broadband Internet, ISDN, co-location and Web-based hosting to business and residential customers in western Massachusetts.

"Tekelec delivers a flexible switching solution that integrates with our existing network infrastructure and enables the cost-effective delivery of the latest services that our customers demand," said Matthew Crocker, vice president, Crocker Telecommunications in a statement.

Tekelec had announced a similar deal last week with Vortex Broadband Communications. Vortex is deploying several Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Servers to launch new voice, broadband and hosted VoIP services. The West Palm Beach-based carrier is relying on the Tekelec system to launch the services for its business and residential customers.

Vortex is a long-time Tekelec 6000 customer. The carrier is deploying additional Tekelec 6000 application servers this time. These extra applications include unified messaging, softphone, user-scheduled and on-demand conferencing, find-me and Web Portal capabilities that support visual voicemail, click-to-dial and integration of directories and calendars with telephony features.
