IMS Week-in-Review for May 22-26, 2006

TMCnet Associate Editor

It’s been a fairly quiet week for IP Multimedia Subsystem (News - Alert) (IMS) news. I guess everyone is getting ready early for the long Memorial Day weekend!

A few IMS items worth noting are listed below, however. This week Ed LaBanca of CollabGen shared his thoughts about IMS and convergence, Ericsson (News - Alert) announced an IMS-based service offering in Estonia, and Chris Risley wrote about IMS and interoperability across networks.

Plus, a local plug for the IMS Party at GLOBALCOMM (News - Alert) (a TMC + IMS Forum event)!

In his May 22 article, “Wired, Wireless and IP Convergence Changes Everything,” CollabGen’s Ed LaBanca discusses IMS-related technology trends and how enterprises and contact centers are responding. A very worthwhile read!

On Tuesday, telecommunications equipment and services provider Ericsson announced that its IMS technology was chosen by Estonia-based broadband provider Elion.

Elion will use Ericsson’s solution to deliver a range of real-time multimedia offerings, including its new Hotifon VoIP service.

In a May 24 article (“Application-level Network Interoperability and the Evolution of IMS”), Chris Risley of Nominum, Inc. writes about the technical challenges of interoperability across networks that use IMS technology. The article is technical, but highly readable.

Finally, a “local” plug: TMC, publisher of TMCnet.com and IMS Magazine, will be co-hosting the IMS Party at the upcoming GLOBALCOMM show (June 4-8 in Chicago).

IMS Party, also hosted by IMS Forum, will be held at the Cadillac Club on Chicago’s lakefront. If you’re planning to attend GLOBALCOMM, don’t miss this casual and entertaining networking event—a great venue to meet leaders in the IP communications industry while enjoying complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.
