Corinex Communications and Texas Instruments have reportedly combined their technologies to create a residential gateway which enables quality delivery of IPTV to multiple rooms using the electrical wiring inside customers’ homes.

The resulting product, the Corinex ADSL2+ AV200 Powerline Gateway, is the first to combine TI's ADSL2+ and Wireless G++ technology with Corinex’s 200Mbps Powerline technology.

“Corinex’s AV200 Powerline technology has been selected by operators such as Telefonica of Spain and is currently in deployments, tests and field trials with over 40 operators worldwide for IPTV over powerlines,” said Dr. Peter Sobotka, Corinex CEO, in a press release. “We see substantial interest for this gateway.”

Dr. Sobotka is also chairman of the Digital Home Standardization for the Universal Powerline Association.

Delivering quality IPTV signals to multiple rooms in a residence can be a challenge for service providers. The Corinex ADSL2+ AV200 Powerline Gateway G, based on TI’s signal processing and DSL technology, distributes IPTV throughout an entire home over existing electrical wires.

Both companies claim Powerline technology delivers a superior signal to multiple rooms compared to using a DSL modem connected to multiple set-top boxes. Furthermore, delivering signals over electrical wiring simplifies and speeds delivery of IPTV to residential markets because the very last mile of infrastructure already exists.

”TI’s AR7 ADSL2+ technology integrated with Corinex’s AV200 Powerline technology enables service providers to leverage the two field-proven solutions to quickly rollout their IPTV services,” said Kurt Eckles, director of marketing for TI’s Residential Gateway and Embedded Systems group. “As computing, communications and entertainment become further intertwined, TI continues to work closely with innovative partners to deliver the next generation of Residential Gateway solutions for the digitally connected home.”

The ADSL2+ AV200 Powerline Gateway can deliver up to nine streams of video - including high definition and all other video formats - at speeds of up to 200Mbps.

Corinex claims its triple-play residential gateway “is the industry's first box that manages both the interface to the operators network and the 802.11 wireless terminations in the home, in addition to distributing the video traffic throughout the home over electrical wires.”

The Corinex ADSL2+ AV200 Powerline Gateway G (CXA-AV200-RTG) is available now for testing, with general availability in April. It joins seven other 200Mbps Corinex Powerline products to deliver one of the most comprehensive Powerline Product portfolios in the world: The Corinex AV200 Powerline Wall Mount, AV200 Powerline Router, AV200 Powerline Desktop, AV200 CableLAN Router, AV200 CableLAN, AV200 MDU Gateway and AV200 MV Gateway.
