Serverless communications developer Popular Telephony announced on Tuesday that it introduced PeerioBiz 1.1 and Peerio ONE+ONE, a package that includes connectivity from Level3 to compliment the company's Peerio platform.

The Peerio ONE+ONE peer-to-peer (P2P) IP phone for SMB users offers advanced embedded PBX functionality without the need for small and medium sized enterprises to own and maintain in-premises IP PBX and related VoIP equipment or outsource their communications to hosted services providers.

With Peerio ONE+ONE everything is automated. Once plugged into an enterprise LAN, the serverless phones identify each other and interconnect, allowing communications nets to be federated regardless of network or carrier. "An IP PBX in a pod," said Popular Telephony founder and CEO Dmitry Goroshevsky. "The Peerio ONE+ONE terminals serve themselves, enabling plug-and-play networking, by delivering a full range of PBX-like and other advanced functionalities."

What is interesting about this system is that the IP media gateway is integrated in the firmware. This lets the Peerio ONE+ONE phones provide direct calling access to public nets. Also, an autonomous, built-in 4-port 10/100 data switch allows owners to provision an entire small office computer network, eliminating the need for exterior hubs and data switches.

The devices are fully compatible with the company's PeerioBiz, a free peer-to-peer software client for the PC, and use a feature synchronization function to download additional on-demand communications features and apps into terminals.

"Our goal was to create a most integrated and powerful IP Phone, and I'm excited about this product capabilities. This device is really a powerful illustration on how intelligence has moved to end points from central place. It is underlining the necessity of deploying a true P2P architecture in today’s advanced networks. But it is also the most intuitive and plug and play IP Phone that will bring true add value to any SMB network," concluded Goroshevsky.

Peerio ONE+ONE IP phone is currently available to authorized Peerio Partners. It will be available to the general public on March 15, 2006 at the CeBIT Expo for a suggested retail price of $249 US from Peerio Partner Resellers.

PeerioBiz v. 1.1  (Beta) software client is currently available for a free download online with the additional downloadable features are available by pressing an Upgrade button on either Peerio ONE+ONE terminal or PeerioBiz software. The commercial availability of the PeerioAway connectivity package is due at the end of Q1 2006.

Popular Telephony made news back in August when it announced that it signed a distribution and licensing agreement with Vocalpad, a provider of VoIP services to establish the VAR channel for SMBs (small and medium businesses) in Spain, South Asia, Middle East and African countries, as well as a licensing agreement to integrate Peerio in its core product lines.

According to the agreement, Popular Telephony's Peerio products will be part of Vocalpad's product portfolio, providing enterprises with the serverless communication tool with the direct connectivity to PSTN and mobile networks.

"As a next generation carrier, Vocalpad provides a unique 'at hand' access to its customer's through 12 different services," said Hassan Ghandour, the CEO and founder of Vocalpad back then. "In itself, this approach has allowed us to increase our global offering while specifically addressing market segments that were till now undersupplied by the majority of providers. Peerio, with its unique serverless design opened up a whole new outlook that will potentially impact our corporate offering as well as our web based and device based services."
