WFI Selected for Madison Wi-Fi Project

San Francisco recently announced his intention of having the city provide Wi-Fi.
 
Toward that end, Wireless Facilities, Inc. said today that it will provide network design infrastructure and deployment services for the proposed municipal Wi-Fi project in Madison .
 
WFI will work with Cellnet and coordinate with Madison Gas and Electric to deploy a Wi-Fi network initially in downtown Madison .  The target date for that deployment is March 2006, while coverage in the city’s remaining areas should be completed by the beginning of 2007, WFI said.
 
The deployment of a municipal Wi-Fi network is part of Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz’ “Healthy City” plan to show, in part, that Madison is a technologically savvy community, WFI said.
 
“This is an important new service for Madison residents and businesses,” said Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz in a statement.
 
The terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
