Calypso Wireless, Inc. is claiming that Calypso ASNAP Session Controller is “the first Open Source Seamless Mobility solution that hits the market,” and with Calypso ASC and Calypso C1250i WiFi-GSM Dual Mode VoIP Smart cellular phone users “will be able to seamlessly connect between cellular mobile GSM network and WiFi networks and enjoy new added services such as broadband connectivity and wireless VoIP services.”

ASNAP works with Asterisk’s IP-PBX starting with release 1.2.2 making ASC an Open Source solution for seamless mobility. Asterisk founder Mark Spencer delivered the opening keynote address at TMC's VoIP Conference and Expo in Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday.

Alfredo Sarrazin, Vice President of Sales of Calypso Wireless, Inc. says the combination of Calypso ASC and Asterisk Open Source solutions offers “rich and flexible feature sets like Voicemail, Conference Bridging, Call Queuing and Call Detail Records.” Asterisk offers both classical PBX functionality and advanced features, and interoperates with traditional standards-based telephony systems and VoIP systems.

Calypso's been writing a good bit of new business recently, a couple weeks ago announcing a purchase order for $23.3 million dollars from Centconet SA, for the delivery of the Calypso C1250i Dual Mode WiFi-GSM-GPRS VoIP cellular phone, which runs on Intel PXA series application processor and Microsoft WinCE 5.0 operating system and the Calypso C750 WiFi phone.

About the same time the company announced a $2.28 million order from Servinova, a Cisco Systems registered partner company, for the delivery of the Calypso C750w WiFi VoIP-video-calling phone, which also runs on Intel PXA series application processor and Microsoft WinCE 5.0 operating system.

Last November Calypso announced that its affiliated company, RV Technology Limited, Hong Kong has been invited by Intel Corporation to demonstrate a series of cellular Pocket PC-based Smart cellular phones at the 3G World Congress in Hong Kong.

"Using Calypso ASC with Asterisk enables the user to switch seamlessly from the GSM cellular tower to the WiFi Access Point without interruption, and at the same time the Calypso C1250i WiFi-GSM Dual Mode VoIP Smart cellular phone will work like a PABX extension," said Alessandro Valenti, Vice President of R&D of Calypso Wireless.

Calypso ASC does not require any proprietary technology and allows the re-use of the current Access Points infrastructure already deployed without having to incur any additional expenses.
