Further flexing its true software radio technology (TSR) muscle in the Far East, TechnoConcepts Inc. announced last week that it entered into an agreement with China-based Shanghai Jinshilin Technologies Development Company, Ltd., a set-top box design firm.

According to a statement released June 14, the agreement provides that Jinshilin will license Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) technology for set-top boxes and transfer purchase orders for approximately 300,000 IPTV set-top boxes to TechnoConcepts’ to-be-formed Chinese subsidiary.

This subsidiary will begin to fill pending orders for approximately $30 million worth of Jinshilin IPTV set-top boxes by the end of the year.

According to a statement, all current orders will be filled by fall 2006.

The agreement is consistent with TechnoConcepts’ vision to expand its true software radio (TSR) technology into markets such as China, India and South Korea.

Indeed, the latest announcement comes on the heels of a licensing agreement the Van Nuys-based company struck with China Electronics Corp. in May and TechnoConcepts’ acquisition of Asante, a networking and communications technology company.

TechnoConcepts will integrate certain technologies with Jinshilin’s existing IPTV set-top box design and commence commercialization of the IPTV-STB product for delivery of television content via the Internet, the release states.

“Fulfilling our initial purchase orders represents the first of many milestones we expect to achieve together in the Chinese and global IPTV STB market,” said Zuoping Zhang, president of Jinshilin, in the statement. “We believe that the market opportunity for TechnoConcepts’ new China subsidiary is enormous. The response that we have already achieved from world leading companies has been overwhelmingly positive. We expect the China Jinshilin Techno IPTV STB to gain a significant market share in China.”

TechnoConcepts’ chairman agreed.

“The agreement with Jinshilin immediately provides TechnoConcepts with a sizeable revenue opportunity in IPTV set-top boxes – a market that is forecasted to experience extraordinary growth over the coming years,” said Antonio Turgeon, chairman of TechnoConcepts, Inc. “We believe Techno’s proprietary True Software Radio (TSR) integrated into Jinshilin’s IPTV-STB will result in a product offering with truly revolutionary capabilities . . . Moreover, the formation of a TechnoConcepts operating subsidiary in China gives us the ability to capitalize on substantial business in the Far East. We very much look forward to furthering our relationship with Zuoping Zhang and the entire Jishilin team.”
