TelCove Expands Fiber Optic Network in Florida

TMCnet Contributing Editor

Telecom service provider TelCove announced today that it has expanded its fiber optic network infrastructure in the Fort Myers region and across the state of Florida. The company expanded the network to 2,700 route miles, while upgrading and enhancing it to enable next-generation services like enterprise VoIP, business continuity/disaster recovery services, and 10-Gigabit metropolitan Ethernet service.

TelCove has 32 miles of embedded fiber-optic cable in the Fort Myers market. This network infrastructure supports nearly 400 customers in the sunshine state's area. TelCove provides customers with fiber to the enterprise and a direct fiber-based connection from the enterprise location to the company's metro backbone network.

"I'm delighted to report the initiation of a highly aggressive growth strategy in Fort Myers for TelCove," said Jeff Donahue, TelCove's senior vice president of sales and operations in a statement. "TelCove's recent network enhancements signal a renewed commitment to the area and to Florida as a whole. Additionally, they reflect a significant up-tick in local demand for next- generation services delivered over our fiber-based infrastructure."

The provider also recently introduced a new set of services in each of its 70 markets, including Fort Myers. Recently-launched services include enterprise VoIP; business continuity/disaster recovery systems, including E-Vaulting and other data storage services supporting the enterprise during severe weather events; Virtual Private Network (VPN) systems; and, high-capacity, 10-Gigabit data transport via Ethernet, an application for the region's government and educational institutions.

TelCove has been inking deals all over the sunshine state. Indeed, just last month, the company made news when it announced it was tapped by the University of Central Florida (UCF) to provide the institution's facilities with local transport for VoIP services and traditional Centrex voice services for all three of its Orlando campuses.

The deal extends TelCove's current contract with the educational institution which consists of providing local transport for traditional voice and VoIP services to UCF's downtown Orlando facility, and the Rosen College, located in the south of the city. "With the additional trunk facility to the UCF Rosen College of Hospitality and Management, the College will be able to support approximately 265 VoIP stations, providing new state-of-the-art communication capabilities to the Rosen College faculty, administrators, and students," noted the company's news release.

"We're excited about our partnership with TelCove, and have great expectations about this relationship. TelCove has extensive experience delivering communication services to a broad range of organizations, including those in higher education. They provide both traditional and next generation services to some of the largest universities in the country. Today's announcement represents a good move to extend our relationship with TelCove, and leverage their expertise and experience," said Robert Yanckello, UCF's director of computer services/telecommunications.
