Verizon Cuts Price of VoiceWing VoIP Service

Verizon just announced that it lowered the monthly price of VoiceWing Broadband Phone Service, the telecom giant's VoIP-based calling service. The move will certainly position the company in a competitive spot alongside other VoIP service providers such as Vonage.

Previously priced at $29.95 a month for Verizon broadband customers and $34.95 a month for other broadband users, the VoiceWing Unlimited Plan will now be available for $24.95, plus taxes and surcharges, to all qualified new and existing VoiceWing customers, regardless of the broadband connection they use. The new monthly rate for unlimited local and long-distance calls includes calls to the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories.

The new $24.95 rate will be put into effect automatically for all customers who currently have the VoiceWing Unlimited Plan. The telecom also offers the VoiceWing 500 Plan which includes 500 minutes of outbound local and domestic long-distance calling for $19.95 a month, plus taxes and surcharges.

"VoiceWing is ideal for people who want to use their broadband connection to help them save money on calling while also enjoying an array of advanced call-management features," said John Broten, executive director, VoIP services for Verizon in a statement.

Verizon made news last month when it announced that in a move to expand its Wholesale SIP Gateway VoIP product, it added new capabilities to improve interactive communications for customers. New features included metered outbound local calling and directory assistance or operator services.

Metered outbound local calling provides customers with more pricing flexibility. Wholesale customers can also advance and customize their own product suites with the directory assistance and operator service features now available with the wholesale SIP Gateway product. Directory assistance and operator services are offered by both automated and live operators, with 23 languages offered on the automated platform.
