VoIP Provider Vonage Not Horsing Around with Advertising

Associate Editor

It’s not as though Vonage doesn’t already have more visibility than most other VoIP providers, given its presence on the Web, television, and in retail outlets.  But, then again, can you ever have enough publicity?  In a growing and competitive market, the answer is definitively no.  Which is why the service provide has signed on to sponsor the 131st running of the Preakness Stakes, the second race of the coveted Triple Crown, set to be run on May 20th at Maryland’s historic Pimlico Race Course.

Under the sponsorship agreement, Vonage (News - Alert) will be included in commercial advertising for the Preakness as well as the live broadcast’s of both the Preakness and this weekend’s Kentucky Derby.  Vonage also will sponsor the “Countdown to the Preakness Stakes” ticker on NBC Sports’ Web site — NBC will broadcast both events live.

“The Preakness is an annual tradition that has acquired a very loyal and devoted fan base and Vonage is excited to be associated with one of the premier events in thoroughbred racing,” said Michael Tribolet, President of Vonage America Inc.

This is a prime advertising opportunity for Vonage; the Preakness ranks as one of the largest single-day sporting events in the country with over 100,000 attending six of the last seven years — last year’s race set a new attendance record of 115,318.  Attendance at the Derby will be even higher, as will its television viewership.
