NetClarity Offers Free VoIP Security Test

NetClarity, a provider of network vulnerability products and services, has announced a free vulnerability testing program for VoIP equipment providers.

The Audit My VoIP program, which according to NetClarity founder and CTO Gary Miliefsky should be "up and running today," includes scans all types of equipment, from Session Initiation Protocol Gateways to IP-enabled telephones, for Common Vulnerability and Exposures, which Miliefsky identifies as "the systemic cause of over 90 percent of all network security breaches."



NetClarity will provide the VoIP audit results with a high level of integrity and confidentially.

NetClarity highly recommends that large VoIP equipment providers take advantage of this program by sending their products to be tested and approved in accordance with MITRE standards. Hardening their products before they are shipped will help enterprise customers rest assured that they are deploying more secure and stable VoIP equipment.


"Enterprise VoIP equipment is particularly susceptible to being maliciously exploited, which can lead to down-time and lost revenue," says Gary Miliefsky, founder and chief technology officer of NetClarity. "I encourage all VoIP equipment providers to have their products audited for CVEs."

Miliefsky is a featured panelist at this week's Internet Telephony Conference and Expo. Mr. Miliefsky will participate in a discussion on VoIP security. In particular, IT professionals will gain insight into preemptive, proactive protection of VoIP networks against Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures that may attack the VoIP infrastructure.

Their free program is "the first step to enabling end-user organizations to preemptively, proactively protect their critical voice networks against the kind of exposures that could leave them susceptible to poor call quality, denial of service, breaches of privacy, integrity and availability," Miliefsky says.

"VoIP networks are not very secure by default and, as a result, are susceptible to poor call quality, denial of service, breaches of privacy, integrity and availability," he cautions. "Securing VoIP will become a serious concern for IT professionals very quickly. They need to take preemptive, proactive measures to harden weak network assets."
