Orative’s Enterprise Software Wins Accolades from the GSM AssociationTMCnet Associate Editor
Orative, a leader in enterprise mobile telephony, recently announced that the GSM Association has nominated Orative Enterprise Software to the shortlist of five companies for the 2006 GSM Awards in the Best Mobile Enterprise Product or Service category. This year the GSM considered 500 entries from companies around the world vying for awards recognizing excellence in mobile communications. The winners will be announced at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, Spain on Feb. 14. “The 2006 GSM Association Awards have been specifically designed to showcase the diversity of products and services and the quality, ingenuity and level of innovation that combine to fuel the mobile value chain. Entries this year have again exceeded our highest expectations, reflecting the vibrancy of the mobile industry on a global basis," remarked Rob Conway, CEO of the GSM Association. Orative Enterprise Software, the company’s flagship product, enables mobile professionals to quickly and easily reach co-workers so that they can ask for help, make decisions and accelerate business processes. A presence-enabled phone book makes it possible for a caller to determine at-a-glance if someone is available to talk before placing a call. On the receiving side, the software allows users to verify the importance of incoming calls by displaying details such as name, priority and subject matter on the mobile handset. This functionality saves organizations time by providing relevant information to both callers and recipients that assists them in coordinating “live” calls despite differences in time and location. In addition to being in the final round for the GSM Awards, Orative has also received the 2006 Mobility Award from MobileTrax, as well as the Bronze “2005 Product of the Year” award in the Mobile Management category from TechTarget’s SearchMobileComputing.com. For more information, visit http://www.orative.com GSM - an acronym for Global System for Mobile Communications - is a cellular technology based on TDMA which was developed in the 1980s. It is the most widely used system in Europe, but is also used in other parts of the world. Operating in the 900MHz and 1.8GHz bands in Europe and the 1.9GHz PCS band in the U.S., GSM defines the entire cellular system, not just the air interface. As of 2000, there were more than 250 million GSM users, which is more than half of the world’s mobile phone population. GSM phones use a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) smart card that contains user account information. Any GSM phone becomes immediately programmed after plugging in the SIM card, thus allowing GSM phones to be easily rented or borrowed. SIM cards can be programmed to display custom menus for personalized services. GSM provides a short messaging service (SMS) that enables text messages up to 160 characters in length to be sent to and from a GSM phone. It also supports data transfer at 9.6 Kbps to packet networks, ISDN and POTS users. GSM is a circuit-switched system that divides each 200 kHz channel into eight 25 kHz time slots.
